Prospects of measuring a metallicity trend and spread in globular clusters from low-resolution spectroscopy

چکیده

Context. The metallicity spread, or the trend along evolutionary sequence of a globular cluster, is rich source information to help understand cluster physics (e.g., multiple populations) and stellar atomic diffusion). Low-resolution integral-field-unit spectroscopy in optical with MUSE spectrograph an attractive prospect if it can provide these diagnostics because allows us efficiently extract spectra large fraction stars only few telescope pointings.

Mass-to-Light Ratios for M31 Globular Clusters: Age-Dating and a Surprising Metallicity Trend

We have obtained velocity dispersions from Keck high-resolution integrated spectroscopy of ten M31 globular clusters (GCs), including three candidate intermediate-age GCs. We show that these candidates have the same V -band mass-to-light (M/LV ) ratios as the other GCs, implying that they are likely to be old. We also find a trend of derived velocity dispersion with wavelength, but cannot disti...

Bright Stars and Metallicity Spread in the Globular Cluster

The globular cluster Ω Centauri (NGC 5139) is the most massive and brightest cluster in our Galaxy. It has also a moderately high mass to light ratio (3.6) and an anomalous flattening (0.83) for a globular cluster. This cluster is also very interesting because it is one of a few examples of globular clusters with a measurable spread in the metal abundance (see Da Costa & Willumsen 1981, Norris ...

SED, Metallicity and Age of Halo Globular Clusters in M33

In this paper we study the properties of ten halo globular clusters in the nearby spiral galaxy M33. CCD images of M33 were obtained as a part of the BATC Colour Survey of the sky in 13 intermediate-band filters from 3800 to 10000Å. By aperture photometry, we obtain the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of these globular clusters. We estimate the ages of our sample clusters by comparing the ...

Low Mass X-ray Binaries in Globular Clusters: a New Metallicity Effect

Galactic Globular Clusters (GCs) containing bright X-ray sources (Lx > 10 erg/s), commonly associated with Low Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), are found to be significantly denser and more metal-rich than normal non-X-ray clusters both in the Galaxy and in M31. Within a framework where LMXBs in GCs are generated via tidal captures in highdensity clusters and (2 + 1) encounters in low-density globu...

Color and Metallicity Distributions of M81 Globular Clusters

In this paper we present catalogs of photometric and spectroscopic data for M81 globular clusters (GCs). The catalogs include B− and V − photometric and reddening data of 95 GCs, and spectroscopic metallicities of 40 GCs in M81. Using these data, we make some statistical correlations. The results show that the distributions of intrinsic B and V colors and metallicities are bimodal, with metalli...
